When I first seen Chase I thought to myself “He seems like a cool person”. Then when I sat down and talked to him, I found out we have a lot in common. We both like hanging out with friends, we both love sports and we both have a strong relationships with our younger brother. When I found out both of our brothers are the same age I thought it was kind of funny. Also their names start with the same letter (Chase, Cole) like me and my brother (Tyrese, Tyrele). The only thing that Chase and his brother did that me and my brother didn’t do was play sports together in high school. Chase and Cole played varsity Ice Hockey for two years together in high school. I think that made their relationship even stronger.
Chase loves the game of hockey. He been playing it since a he was a child. He is very good at it because he was selected to First Team All Met, Cole did also. He wanted to play at the next level in college but it didn’t work out. He didn’t receive a athletic scholarship, but Miami University in Ohio wanted him to walk on.
Chase and Cole have always had a strong relationship. They were never to far away from each while growing up. From watching the same TV shows, playing the same sports or just doing usual brotherly activities, doing stuff they are not suppose to, fighting each other, and sneaking out the house. When Cole made the varsity ice hockey team as freshman, Chase knew their relationship would be stronger. Now they basically would be spending they whole day together for years straight.
Chase and Cole played ice hockey for two years together in high school , Chase junior year while Cole was a freshman and the year following. For a freshman to make the varsity team, he has to be really good. The connection Chase and Cole have off the ice, carried on to the ice. They communicated very well in the rink, its like they always knew where each other were. Gonzaga High School did so good Chase’s senior year and Cole’s sophomore year they made it all they way to state championship.
Before the game there was a news piece done that talked about their morning routine. It was called “The Vallese Brother’s Morning Routine”. They were hooked up with microphones and go pros so people get a real life visual of what happens on game day. They talked about what to expect during the game, and what they need to do to win. Chase and Cole were focused that whole day during school, barely even speaking until the game started. Chase and Cole lockers were right next to each other. They even got dressed at the same pace. Now its game time and they are very excited. They want all their hard work to pay off by winning this championship. As the game began, everything seemed to be going right for them. They started off strong defensively not allowing line changes and fore checking the other team. During the second period, they managed to put up two goals. That put them up 2-0. One of the goals was scored by chase with an assist from Cole. They still kept the connection going in the championship game. In the third period, they focused more on defense to keep the lead. They kept passing the puck around to keep the other team from getting on offense. Eventually time ran out they celebrated their win by dog piling their goalie. The newspaper captured a picture of Chase and Cole jumping and hugging each other in the air. Chase said that picture perfectly describes that game. He said that will always be his favorite hockey game, not only because they won the championship, but because his brother was by his side.
I can only imagine what winning a state championship feels like but winning it with your blood brother is unexplained. Tyrele and I have a good relationship but I think it would be better if we played sports together. He plays football and I played basketball. I am actually kind of jealous that I didn’t have experience. Having a brother can be very helpful in your life. You can talk to them about anything and go to them in a time of need. But the relationship Cole and Chase share is special and I believe what made it special was them playing ice hockey together. They worked hard together, sweated together, and probably bleed together. Most brothers can’t say they experienced that together. That is what makes Chase and Cole brotherhood so special.
